Budget 2018 – What you need to know
This week, the chancellor delivered his 2018 Budget in which he announced an extra £400 million capital funding for schools this year, effective immediately.
This money will amount to a pay out of roughly £10,000 per primary school, and £50,000 per secondary school.
However, the extra cash injection cannot be used for revenue outlay, such as staff salaries, and can only be spent on capital projects, for example purchasing sports and technology equipment, or building maintenance.
Every year, the Budget sparks conversations and debates across industries, and this year has been no different. Whilst many in the education sector argue that this capital investment is not enough, Jonathan Simons, Education policy commentator and former government adviser, suggests that any extra funding into schools is a ‘good announcement’.
Funding of UK schools and education continues to be a hot topic, both across the teaching profession and in Whitehall.
Limited staff numbers, both in classrooms and the office, puts pressure on school operations. With increasing regulations and more reporting and paperwork to complete, along with increased pupil numbers, teachers’ to-do lists are continually increasing.
Many schools are looking to technology to help ease staff workload, improve efficiency and maximise return on investment, choosing ParentMail to increase parental engagement. ParentMail allows schools to send messages, collect forms, collect payments, organise events and organise parents’ evening digitally. This saves staff time printing and distributing forms to pupils, eliminates the risk of lost communications, and can save schools thousands of pounds per year on resources like paper, postage and printing toner and make school budgets go further.
If you are already using ParentMail and would like to find out more about the other services which could benefit your school, or if you’re looking to implement a brand-new parental engagement system, get in touch with the ParentMail team and start to improve efficiency, reduce costs and work smarter within your school.
